COMPLICATIONS ASSOCIATED WITH CASTING OF ACUTE DISTAL RADIUS FRACTURES IN ADULTS - A PROSPECTIVE OBSERVATIONAL STUDY

چکیده
Aim: Closed treatment of distal radius fractures is still a controversy. In children, circumferential casting acute found to be safe. However, research lacking demonstrate its safety in adults. The purpose this study was assess the risk complications associated with adult patients. Methods: Study conducted 60 patients fracture arriving at Emergency department Govt Theni Medical College. Patients were evaluated red zone and provisionally immobilized plaster Paris casts. followed for minimum 12 weeks. Complication rates recorded, including displacement, tenosynovitis, carpal tunnel syndrome malunion. Results: included study. A total 45 met inclusion criteria placement short arm cast Department. majority sustained their injuries from ground level fall. minority had radiographic evidence intra-articular extension or underwent reduction prior casting. did not require change. data analysis showed such as malunion insignificant value closed proved safest benefitted method management lesser complications. Conclusion: There no major acute, series While further studies larger numbers are necessary establish casting, suggests that may safe effective presenting normal neurovascular exam.

Distal radius fractures in adults.
Although distal radius fractures are a common injury in the elderly and young adult population, the classification, treatment options, and assessment of outcomes of these fractures remain controversial. Since there is no uniform fracture classification system, it is difficult to compare studies. An evidence-based model of management needs to be developed.
متن کاملSoft tissue complications of distal radius fractures.
Distal radius fractures account for approximately 15% of all fractures in adults. Care of these fractures is associated with a myriad of complications. This review focuses on the soft tissue complications encountered during the management of distal radius fractures, including tendon injury, nerve dysfunction, vascular compromise, skin problems, compartment syndrome, complex regional pain syndro...

متن کاملClosed manipulation and casting of distal radius fractures.
Closed reduction and cast treatment of distal radius fractures renders satisfactory results in fractures that are reducible and stable and do not re-displace in plaster in the first 2 weeks following reduction. Intra-articular and unstable fractures have a high risk for re-displacement in plaster and therefore represent a contraindication for cast treatment. A fracture that re-displaces in plas...
متن کاملComplications of volar plating of distal radius fractures.
Open reduction and internal fixation has been shown to be effective in the treatment of unstable distal radius fractures. When a dorsal approach is used, extensor tendons rupture or irritation are frequent and well known complications. Complications associated with volar plate fixation have not been studied to the same extent. In this study a homogenous series of 90 patients treated by volar pl...
